Starting Point
It occurs to me that I (belatedly) need to list out my previous exposure to Shakespeare's works, prior to starting this project. This way, I'll have a better comparison by the end to see exactly what kind of progress I've made in terms of...I dunno. Learning? Bragging rights? Something in between.
Note, there's some overlap in these lists.
Studied in School:
- As You Like It
- Merchant of Venice
- Twelfth Night
- Richard II
- Antony and Cleopatra
- Hamlet
- King Lear
- Othello
- The Winter's Tale
- Romeo and Juliet
- A Midsummer Night's Dream
- Macbeth
- **It strikes me as supremely odd that only one history play is listed here. I swear I studied another one in college, but can't for the life of me think of which. If anything seems familiar later on while I'm reading, maybe my memory will be jogged...**
Seen as Live Performance:
- Romeo and Juliet
- The Taming of the Shrew
- The Tempest
- Merry Wives of Windsor
- Twelfth Night
- A Midsummer Night's Dream
Seen a Movie Version (only counting actual Bard language, not "inspired by" films):
- Hamlet
- Romeo and Juliet
- Titus Andronicus
- Henry IV, Part I
- Twelfth Night
- Love's Labor's Lost
- Much Ado About Nothing
- A Midsummer Night's Dream
I've Performed In It:
- A Midsummer Night's Dream
- The Tempest
- The Taming of the Shrew
- Much Ado About Nothing
- Two Gentlemen of Verona (select scenes only)
- Merry Wives of Windsor (select scenes only)
Which leaves us with the fun list I like to call Zero Exposure. Looks like it comprises roughly half of his works:
- Henry IV, Part II
- Henry V
- Henry VI, Parts I, II, III
- Richard III
- King John
- Edward III
- Henry VIII
- All's Well That Ends Well
- The Comedy of Errors
- Cymbeline
- Measure for Measure
- Pericles, Prince of Tyre
- Troilus and Cressida
- Coriolanus
- Julius Caesar
- Timon of Athens
- **plus, all that fun lyric poetry, and the majority of the sonnets**
Looks like I've got my work cut out for me!
